UP CHK, Quezon City -- The League’s defending champions Los Toros overwhelmingly defeated the Angry Birds with the score of 4-1 last Saturday, December 10. Los Toros won the match extending their winning streak to four games through a team effort led by their hard-hitting scorer, Paolo Rentero.
The Toros dominated the game from the start with their efficient handling of the ball possession and tight defense that locked-out the Birds forwards Rigor Alamar and Bullet Ribaya. On the fourth minute of the game, Toros’ star player Paolo Rentero scored his first goal through his own effort of keeping the ball away from the Birds’ defense. Rentero’s shot was the only goal committed in the first half of the game.
The absence of the Birds’ ball-handler and assist-maker Emil Tan was felt during the second half of the match. Just 16 seconds after the half-time break, Caezarina Idul scored her first goal of the season through a pass from Rentero. Tan’s presence in the Bird’s mid-court and defense was largely missed when their defense allowed the Toros forwards to go towards the goal. At 12:30, Rentero scored his second solo-goal. Rentero was not completely unaided after Sweetheart Baz’s pass at 16:07 which he translated into a goal. The 4-0 advantage of the Toros at this point seemed to be too formidable but the Angry Birds did not stop trying to obtain a goal and at 17:54 Rigor Alamar found their opportunity for a powerplay goal and scored their would-be lone and consolation goal after a pass from co-forward Bullet Ribaya. The game finished with a score of 4-1 in favor of Los Toros.
Note: Goalkeeper Fra Silva saved seven attempts from the Toros while Toros’ Miguel Dimacali stopped six coming from the Angry Birds.
