Sensational Lions' Rookie Hat-trick shutout the Defending Champs

By UP Floorball Club

A great start for the Lions this 2nd season as they defeat the defending Season champions, Los Toros.

AIA Lions' rookie wingman, Marco Ortiz, had three goals in their opening game against the defending champions, Los Toros, last Saturday afternoon. Lions' team captain, Jay Futalan, added 1 goal and two assists and a shutout game for Diony Hipolito ensured their 4-0 victory.

The Toros started the game strong controlling the ball possession, putting a lot of pressure over the Lions' defense. However, Hipolito didn't allow any goals, saving 12 shots in the match. The Lions' defenders effectively controlled the Toros' hard-hitting scorers, Luis Manila and Paolo Rentero, by not giving them enough space and time to prepare to shoot.

The Toros seemed to have taken control of the game but at 6:40 of the 1st half, Lions' cap, Jay Futalan scored a goal with an assist from their rookie defender Brian Vogel. From then on, the Lions' got their offensive rhythm together with their second goal in one-minute (7:36) with Ortiz' wrap-around behind the goal.

The Toros weren't able to come back with their offense in the second half with the continuous defensive pressure by the Lions. Ortiz completed his hat-trick goal with an assist by his co-rookie forward, Ruth Domingo at 16:09.

A great start for the Lions this 2nd season. However, the Toros are expected to come back from this loss and again dominate in the matches to come.
