Urbano scores as Diggers down SBS

The Goal Diggers opened the season with a 1-0 victory against the SBS. Miguel Urbano scored a rebounded shot from Redbert Maines one-minute after the start of the last half. The Diggers and the SBS had a lot of exchanges of ball possession in the first half until the opening of the second half.

The Diggers had more shots on goal but SBS goalkeeper, Nathan Nogales, stopped 6 out of those 7. On the other hand, SBS were having a hard time finding their scoring opportunities as the Digger defenders, headed by AC Arrojo, and tireless defensive forwards, Flo Magboo and Red Maines, forced them to commit a lot of turnovers allowing a couple of breakaway opportunities for the Diggers.

One-minute past the second half when the Diggers had another breakaway opportunity lead by Redbert Maines, who wristed a shot from the left side of Nogales. The SBS stopper was able to block the shot, however, the ball bounced off directly to the trailing Urbano who netted the game-winning goal.

The Goal Diggers, who finished bottom place last season, were very happy winning the match and opening their season with a 1-0 win record. On the other hand, the SBS have yet played their best, with the leadership of Joco Navarro and their new player acquisitions, Lou Diaz and Eugene Gabo.
