After much anticipation, excitement and sweating, the 2nd season of the UPFL has arrived! Players from all over the Club have formed into six teams vying for the coveted prize and a place in history. Plus, the games for this season will now be played inside the corner-less, unforgiving rink. (Don't worry, it's safe to play inside the rink.) This season promises to be an absolute thriller, with upsets and drama yet to unfold - and the championship and its glory, at stake.
Starting off with the champions in Los Toros, they are hoping for a repeat under the captaincy of Saldio Amador. With valuable players such as Myk Villanueva and Luis Manila in field, and with the return of scoring powerhouse Paolo Rentero, they look set to make a bullish run this season and complete a second championship.
Not far off, the Fighting Macaroons won't hold to the Toros' domination, without a (you guessed it) fight. The trio of Jeffrey Castro, Jomax Bagasao and super-sub Martin Reyes III look set to dazzle the opposition with their incisive passing play and scrumptious goals - and to command the league with these key ingredients.
With a lot of acquisitions, the Angry Birds aim to build a league-winning dynasty this season. On their foundations of course are scoring machines Bullet Ribaya and Stephen Jun Villejo, and powerplayer Rigor Alamar - to ensure the team soars comfortably into victory.
Helping themselves into a solid first season with an emphatic win over the Toros, the Athletes in Action are looking to build up on this season with that promising start. With hockey veteran Marco Angelo Ortiz, lethal player Joshua Paunil, and an almost impenetrable wall named Diony Hipolito, the Athletes look very much confident in raising a title challenge this season.
SBS have prepared a large line-up this season, and it seems that they're not short of quality either. Headed by Joco Navarro and Ryan Gonzales, and Nate Nogales in goal, the SBS expect to turn quality to championship glory. (I still have no idea what SBS means.)
Finally, the Goal Diggers look to forget their troubles last season with a solid line-up and a convincing season this term. For that, they can count on their talismanic duo Miguel Urbano and Flo Magboo, and outstanding keeper Nic Angeles to build on a title-winning team.
With all the talent set to improve this season, this season shall provide nothing short of surprises, shocks, breathtaking goals and skills, camaraderie, drama and comedy. Hold your breath, guys, this is going to be one crackerjack of a season!
