Stick-O captures first win behind Rentero’s hat-trick

By UP Floorball Club

Stick-O prevailed against Sixy as Paolo Rentero scores three.

Ylanan Gym, UP Diliman – The Stick-O gained their first win of the season after putting two goals ahead of their opponent Sixy.

The match saw an aggressive Stick-O team who controlled most of the possessions during the game. Led by their star player, Paolo Rentero, Stick-O was able to exploit an offensive advantage over Sixy. Rentero started his memorable game with a short-distanced goal at 3:30 entirely coming from his effort. Spencer Cheng, who is Sixy’s leading scorer, was able to answer back with his own unassisted goal at 7:55 mark. In a remarkable turn of events, Rentero was able to catch a long pass from their goalkeeper Liam Canlas and deliver it towards the goal 15 seconds before the end of the half. Canlas’ assist was the first-ever dish recorded for a goalkeeper in the history of the UP Floorball League.

With the opposing team up by a point, Sixy started to tighten its defense led by its two forwards Flo Magboo and Joshua Paunil. Their strategy paid off as there were no goals allowed for most of the second half. But they were not able to contain a hot-handed Rentero from catching a hat-trick performance after getting a pass from fellow forward Miguel Urbano and translating it into a goal at 17:05. However, Rentero was called for an incorrect push violation at 18:25 which put him out of the court for the rest of the game. Similarly, Cheng was called for a hitting violation at 18:55 making his team short-handed. The game finished with Stick-O sticking with three goals trumping Sixy’s one.

Canlas stopped Sixy from scoring six times while Sixy’s own goalkeeper Paulo Remigio protected his turf twice. Stick-O improved their slate with a 1-3-0 while Sixy was brought down with 1-2-0 record.
Look-out for these teams next Saturday as Stick-O faces TLZ at 11:30 and Sixy battles with Superfly at 10:30 and with the Badass Boomslangs at 12:30.
