After last week’s disappointing loss against SBS, the Angry Birds managed to tie its fourth match of the season with the leading AIA Lions. Birds’ star forward Bullet Ribaya led his team with two goals and was hailed Man of the Match.
AIA’s sensational rookie Marco Ortiz scored the first goal of the match getting the assist dished by Brian Vogel five minutes after the first face-off. Possession of the ball was exchanged throughout the first half with each team forcing their opponent to commit turnovers.
Bullet Ribaya then captured a scoring opportunity early in the second half scoring from a pass made by Bird’s hustle player Emil Tan to equalize the game. More attempts at the goal were made by the Lions and in the seventeenth minute, AIA’s ball-handler Ralph Ramos garnered the advantage and scored, passing through Bird’s goalkeeper Fra Silva, who saved 8 out of 10 shot attempts, thus lifting the AIA by a goal through the assist from Jay Futalan. The Birds did not give up as Ribaya was able to get his second goal; a game-tying move at the last minute scoring opportunity after AIA’s goalie Diony Hipolito failed to secure the ball from the attempt made by comeback player, Rigor Alamar. Hipolito saved 4 out of 6 shots, explaining the AIA’s good defense of not allowing the Birds to have many scoring opportunities. The Birds broke AIA’s three-game winning streak and Diony Hipolito’s formidable record of not allowing more than a goal in a game, showing the force they can be if their team is complete.
The Angry Birds will face the Los Toros on December 10 at 11:30 while the AIA Lions will compete against SBS at 12:00 on the same date.
