Even with the presence of defensive stalwart, Myk Villanueva, The Boomslangs’ defense’ overall lack of experience was exploited by the Blades’ high-scoring duo of Marco Ortiz and Luis Manila.
In the first half, Ortiz drew first blood after turning a clean cross from Manila into the first goal of the match, just over a minute into the match. The second goal came after Boomslangs keeper Lennart Panton lost control of a shot from Ortiz at the 3:59 mark.
The Blades’ constant pushing left the Boomslangs constantly reeling while the lack of player movement and the Blades’ locking down of the passing lanes kept the Boomslangs from establishing much fluidity on offense.
Panton solidified is defense of the goal, managing 7 saves in the half, but fell victim to an individual goal by Luis Manila at 8:41 to put the Boomslangs up 3-0.
The Blades looked to put the game out of reach as Ortiz scored an unassisted goal to complete a hat trick at 12:50, giving the Blades a demanding 4-0 lead. But the Boomslangs responded by overcoming their earlier offensive struggles, and scoring with a pair of assisted shots. Alamar scored off a pass by Sweetheart Baz at 15:49, while Baz herself scored off a pass by Carlo Ray Selabao at 17:58. Just over a minute later, Myk Villanueva scored as an aerial pass intended for Baz sailed past the Blades’ Fralyn Silva to cut the Blades’ lead to 1.
But the Boomslangs’ hopes of tying the game were cut short as AC Arrojo scored the final goal of the game, following a rebound off the post to decisively put the Blades up, 5-3.
The Boomslangs’ Lennart Panton finished the game with 12 saves while the Blades’ Fralyn Silva ended with 5.
